Booster Information

What is the Band Booster Organization?
The official name of the Avon Band Booster Organization is named Marching Black and Gold, Inc.

We support the band program by raising money to pay for all the expenses that are not covered by the student fees nor are budgeted within the school budget.

We support the band program by volunteering numerous hours to "make it happen." Whe is meant by "make it happen" is fitting the kids with uniforms, sewing flags, making costumes, washing costumes, dressing the kids, manning the concession stands, building the props, painting the props, driving the semi, pulling the trailer, moving equpiment on and off the field, etc.

Who should join the Band Booster Organization?
Everyone!

Anyone can join the Band Booster Organization. Please encourage anyone you know to join our organization. If you have a senior, you must be a paid-member of the Avon Band Booster Organization by December 31st in order for your child to be eligible for a scholarship. We give out 3 $500 scholarships through the dollar for scholars.

The only restriction is to be a board member. A board member must have an active band member in the program.

What are the Band Booster Dues used for?
The Band Booster Dues are used to support the band in all facets necessary to support our band program. Some of these items include buying materials to build props, purchasing equipment, purchasing pizza for the students at the home football games, spirit committee activities, etc.

Can we attend the meetings if we don't pay band booster dues?
We really do appreciate your donation towards our organization, but we understand if you cannot pay for these fees. Everyone is always welcome to our meetings. And please do not hesitate to volunteer for other activities.

2004 Volunteering Avon Marching Black & Gold Band Boosters
  • What: A totally volunteer driven organization, working in partnership with the 2004 State Champion Class A Marching Black and Gold and the Avon High School Music Department.
  • Who Benefits: You do. Your band student does. Avon Marching Black & Gold does. Volunteerism makes you part of a bigger organization and benefits your child by supporting their program and keeping our out-of -pocket fees reasonable.
  • Why: The Marching Band, Drumline and Winterguard earn accolades that are positive reflections upon this community and show the strength of parental commitment to Avon High School’s music programs. The student’s benefit from a positive experience, learning what teamwork means, character modeling, discipline and commitment to something greater than themselves.
  • When: Various times from June 2005 through May 2006 you will have the opportunity to volunteer your time for a variety of projects.
  • Where: Avon High School property, Avon Community Corp. buses, Manchester College, a number of other schools where we perform or stay, or any other venue.
  • What's in it for you?: Fun, and a chance to meet and mingle with the other great parents who are responsible for making this program what it is. Most importantly, making a difference in the lives of the students you come into contact with and having ownership in the overall music program.
  • Unskilled hands needed! Spouses, aunts, uncles, retirees, parents, grandparents and children over 11 years of age are welcome and encouraged to participate.

What to expect at invitationals/competitions
Competition Day Agendas will be sent by Barbara Doll through e-mail about a week before the competition (or as soon as she has all of the details).

This agenda will break down the times the kids are doing what (be prepared for your child to be gone all day, as they will practice prior to leaving for performance). The agenda will have directions to the performance sites, and usually will have a line up of the competition in our class, and of course it will have our competition time listed.

If you don't have e-mail, you can find a printed version of the agenda outside Mr. Webb’s and Barbara's office.

A Fan Bus is available to parents, friends, siblings, etc. It leaves with the students' buses. This is a free service, however, we only have one fan bus and the seats are on a first come, first serve basis.

ISSMA Invitationals cost an average of $6.00 per person. However, it may be more or less than that. Usually there is a discount for students and senior citizens.

As parents, friends and family, we try to sit in a block together. Please look for the "A" when you get to the competition and join us.

We are the cheerleaders for the band and like most of the other band parents we will say a chant as the kids come on to the field. It is easy to learn and a fun way to get involved.

Competition Etiquette
While we are most enthusiastic in supporting our children by clapping and giving them a standing ovation, we also recognize that every student out on the field, regardless of what school they represent, has worked very hard to get where they are today so we encourage all of you to show your support by clapping and giving a standing ovation to EVERY BAND.

BE POSITIVE, ENCOURAGING, AND SUPPORTIVE!

Please do NOT disrespect other bands or other schools by making negative comments.

Please do NOT disrespect the students or sections within our own band by making negative comments.

Meijer Rewards Program
The Marching Black & Gold are now signed up for Meijer Community Awards program. What this means is that everytime you shop at Meijer and use your Rewards card, a portion of the sales is given to the Marching Black & Gold.

So, you ask - how do I get a Rewards card? I am glad that you asked as it is soooooooooo easy. By the way, this is not a credit card, it is just a rewards card.

You may get a form from the band office or even easier yet, you can go on line to www.meijer.com/rewards to register. The one important thing that you need is our organization code. It is 166818. Your Guest card should arrive within 2 weeks. Please make sure that you complete all the fields in BOLD or you will not get the card.

If you have a Meijer credit card, please call 1-800-962-7011 to join. They will sign you up using the same code.
